Reviews | #04 Kosovo

As I was doing earlier, I am going to review RoEurovision songs again. The review for each song will have my opinion in words and the score. You can get 10 points maximally by me. I'll try to be as objective as I can. Let's begin!

Note: Don't take the reviews offensively and don't hate me just because I don't like your song - it really doesn't mean anything, because everyone else can still like it. And mostly, it is just a game :)

1. Sweden

The biggest minus of the song is probably its cliche lyrics. I really like song's tempo, it is catchy and makes me wanna dance. But more long it is, more repetitive it is beginning to be. And that electro part is really needless and from really above-average pop song is becoming weird mix of two genres, not even combined well... But the rest of the song is really good and catchy.
+ tempo
+ catchiness
+ higher than average pop genre
- electro part
- lyrics
- becomes repetitive

2. Belgium

Here fits the electro chorus way more than to the previous one song. My first impresion of this song was after the first 30 seconds really confused, but when I got used to its different style, I really started to like it. Stromae belongs to the better part of today's french music and this song just proves it.
+ chorus
+ different language is nice change
+ song style
+ it is "something else"
- lyrics

3. Morocco

Well, Sia. I guess I have nothing to say. The Greatest is just one of her greatest songs. Combined with the video = killer. The song is so emotional, even more when you know the meaning of it - Orlando shooting. Impressive lyrics, Sia's incredible vocals... The greatest.
+ lyrics
+ vocals
+ message of the song
+ tempo
+ music
+ just the whole song

4. Spain

Between PVRIS and me it is like on roller coaster... Sometimes, I really love their songs, and sometimes, I can't stand them. I am happy I can say, this song belongs to that better group. St. Patrick is one of those more radio friendly and catchy songs by them. Lyrics are a bit cliche, but they are still meaningful. One big negative in this song I see is its repetitivity. A giant part of the song is the same. But if I overlook this, it is really strong entry by Spain.
+ catchiness
+ vocals

- repetitivity

5. Malta

Oh... I'm really not into this. It is combining too many things at once and makes from itself just overmixed... bad song. Singer's voice is really annoying. And it is like... soooo repetitive. Song's not catchy at all. At least, lyrics are bit funny, but that's all. For me it is really weird overcombined thing, trying to be a song. More than a song it is just a crazy drag race experiment, which doesn't belong to RoESC.
+ a bit funny lyrics?
- repetitivity
- music
- overcombined
- even when lyrics are funny, they are still stupid
- annoing voice
- not catchy

Score: 2/10

6. Albania

The song with original, great and promising name is THAT dated and cheap, unfortunately. There are some original and fresh elements (trumpets for example), but it still sounds so dated, like it would be from 2001. The lyrics are just so unoriginal and make song sound even more cheap. There is some catchiness, but still, no, this song is not good.
+ few original elements
± catchiness
- sounds dated
- sounds cheap
- unoriginal lyrics

7. Denmark

Oh, we have bigger change of style. I Went Too Far is more ballad than previous songs and nicely stands out. But... just at the beginning. After like two minutes it becomes monotonous and too repetitive. If you don't focus on the song, you can easily get lost. But still, it is great song for chill but still not bland and full of emotions. Lyrics are OK.
+ atmosphere of the song
+ can outstand
+ singer's voice
- a bit monotonous
- repetitive

8. Lithuania

Pop song which is following the usual scheme for a good pop song but still can be original and interesting in it. I see the biggest negative in singer's voice what sounds too weak for me and a little too much PC edited.  Lyrics are really good and song is catchy. And still I miss something on it. It sounds just too generated for me... Average.
+ originally processed
+ catchiness
- singer's voice
- a bit too generated

9. Estonia

Estonia's song comes with really original and interesting beat right from the beginning. Singer's voice is special and the same interesting. More and more you listen to the song, more it just makes you wanting to just chill and relax. Probably only minus of it is the repetitivity, but the rest is great radio friendly, chill song with which you can remind summer.
+ singer's voice
+ chilly atmosphere
+ beat
- repetitivity

10 France

I prefer original, but this really isn't bad. France sent cover of the old classic and I think they sent well. I think I have nothing to tell against lyrics, Simon & Garfunkel had always beautiful lyrics and this version didn't change anything. Singer's voice is really strong and his singing is full of emotions. Bet on the more dramatic and emotional version of Sound of Silence was really worth it,
+ lyrics
+ singer's voice
+ really emotional version
- it is just not song by them

11. Azerbaijan

Eh, even in Eurovision I really did not like Samra's song. And nothing changed. Her vocals are just too weak. The song has good tempo and is actually catchy, but after few listens it gets really annoying and it begins to sound more and more cheap. It surely has its fans, but I won't be counted between them.
+ catchy
- vocals
- a bit cheap
- repetitive

I know by Tove Lo just Habits and Talking Body, so hearing this style of the song by her was in first case really shocking. But when I got used to it, it started to be really interesting. It is not that catchy, but it really hes original and unusual tempo and the way she sings. Lyrics are really fine. The tempo makes from the song something original and really not so usual. I hear negative in some not matching way she sings and music, that sounds really weird to me.
+ lyrics
+ original interesting temp
- sometimes it sounds really weird and music with the singing is like it doesn't match...

Actually I expected something like Impossible by him. But this emotive ballad with guitar is probably even better (Impossible got really annoying). He really proves he CAN sing. Lyrics are really good too. It is different from the rest of the songs and really can outstands.
+ lyrics
+ his voice
+ original ballad
- weak chorus

Just from the start I was like "OMG, this is so dated". And it is. It really sounds like from the early 2000s. But even with this, her voice is really good. That much that I actually a bit started to like the song. Lyrics are unfortunatelly bland and not original, but on the other way, it is really catchy and full of... joy.
+ voice
+ atmosphere
- lyrics
- sounds dated

15. Serbia

Look how old this song is. And it really doesn't sound dated. Christna Aguilera definitely has more pop classics, but at least we can hear something not so famous. Everyone knows she has really strong voice and she can sing well. Ain't No Other Man has few interesting elements, like not-so-often instruments or its own atmosphere. But after a while it gets a bit monotonous. Still, the rest is interesting original pop.
+ atmosphere
+ her voice
+ really original elements
- it can get a bit monotonous

16. Croatia

I am really not into these songs... I mean these with a bit of "oriental" sounds. They all sound the same, just listen. First we have wild prelude, then instruments go quietly and singer starts singing, always in the same style... This is actually not bad, but so average. And it is just not my cup of a tea, but I am sure, it has its fans.
+ it is a bit catchy
- using the same scheme as all these songs, nothing outstanding

Score: 4/10

17. Switzerland

Oh, what a voice! This song is really interesting. It combines multiple motives, but doesn't sound overmixed like the Sweden's one, it fits all perfectly together. Song is catchy but not heady. What I don't like is its repetitivity, but that's probably all. The song doesn't sound revolutionary, but like comfortable pop which can't offend.
+ catchiness
+ singer's voice
+ well combined multiple elements
- repetitive

18. Russia

Wtf was that? Lol. Mix of traditional russian music elements with some retro weird disco and even more weird singer's singing. And yeah, it sounds really dated. But I guess it WANTS to be weird, dated and wtf song. You definitely can find yourself laugh because of the song's strangeness. And yes, it is actually even catchy. Guilty pleasure as hell.
+ giant guilty pleasure
+ it is actually funny
± WTF
- terrible and weird mix

19. Kosovo

This edition many countries bet on original and interesting pop. This song really isn't heady or anything you could love for the first listen. Singer's voice is really interesting, same are lyrics. The tempo is really slow, what makes the song much slower than it is and it just looks like it takes so long to finish. Actually it can make anyone fall asleep. Happy there is chorus what always can wake you up and make song more interesting and a bit more radio friendly.
+ lyrics
+ singing
+ not heady or cheap
- in few parts it is just too bland
- tempo

20. Luxembourg

Oh, another song using this scheme - same as the Croatia's one. Singer "sings" few words at the beginning, then comes useless between with those "a bit oriental" instruments and the singer starts to sing - but every one sings by the same style. It is like SO unoriginal. Her voice is OK I guess, but nothing outstanding. As I said, I am not fan of these songs and even more when they are that unoriginal.
+ tempo
± her voice

Not reviewing my entry.

22. The Netherlands

Another interesting and original song - but this time it sounds much more darker and at some places really confusing. This is definitely for everyone. Wild electric sounds in a background and on first listen discordant between her singing and this "music". Lyrics are same interesting. I think this is really good song full of quality which... doesn't much belong to RoESC.
+ REALLY interesting
+ her voice
+ lyrics
- wild, not fitting music
- doesn't really belong to RoESC

Score: 6/10

23. San Marino

Definitely not what I expected. I don't know why, but I thought this is going to be a rock song. And I got a ballad with really weak background music and focusing on singer's vocals. And these vocals are full of emotions. I see negative in its repetitivity and that it actually can get really bland after a while, because it misses a bit stronger background music...
+ singer's voice
+ nice calm ballad
± interesting background music (really original move, to make it so weak and make listener focus on singer, but still makes the song a bit boring)
- repetitivity

Score: 6.5/10

24. Bosnia & Herzegovina

I was really scared of this, because of the name of the song (because I live in one of Slavic countries I understand few things). But it is actually the best of these balcan songs I heard in this edition. Still has the same weaknesses (long betweens...), but the wildness of the song makes it a bit more interesting and catchy. Singer's vocals are nothing amazing, but they are fine - at least for this kind of song.
+ catchy
+ more interesting
± vocals
- still the same scheme

Score: 6/10
